I have two headsets that are recognized by my FTM-300 but won't connect. My mobiles can't connect to the bluetooth in my vehicles. The USB on my FTdx101mp works with very few keyboards and mice.

I am a die hard Yaesu fan and own 10 radios and various accessories. Yaesu is one of the most active equipmpent manufacturers. You would think they could make the USB and bluetooth accessories more robust and thereby, more useful. I have purchased and installed the optional bluetooth boards for my mobiles that did not have the feature. So far, I just don't think that the functionality warrants spending any additional money on it or the USB since it so limited.

I know the FTM-500 is on the way. I wish instead of a couple of new radios per year, they would take some time out and fix the implementation issues in the USB and bluetooth functionality in the current products. I would really appreciate that over another radio with a user interface that is not consistent with previous models.
I have similar Bluetooth and USB comments for my FT5DR.
No excuses should be made for this model, it was released in 2021 as far as i can tell.
According to the manual it has Bluetooth 4.2.
BT standard 4.2 dates back to 2014
BT standard 5.0 dates back to 2016
BT standard 5.1 dates back to 2019
BT standard 5.2 devices were coming to market in 2020.
In a high quality device like the FT5DR why build it with an ancient BT chip?

Looking at the USB connector
USB C has been around since 2015.
USB Micro since 2007
and yet the FT5DR has a USB mini connector for data.

I only earned my licence a year ago and cannot believe how many years some models have been in production (unchanged). While I sat on the fence about the 818 it was discontinued. If I buy one of the remaining ones its successor will be announced a month later with better features and will only cost a few dollars more

Unknownnoreply@blogger.com0Toronto, ON, Canada43.653226 -79.383184315.342992163821151 -114.5394343 71.963459836178842 -44.226934299999996tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-8338344951670257160.post-79864751945032839492022-08-17T09:40:00.049-04:002022-08-21T10:08:25.030-04:00440 repeater network linked by Allstar Mixed Mode Input and Allstar440 repeater network linked by Allstar Mixed Mode Input and Allstar

Basically the big caveat is that the DR2X if placed in the external controller mode, the transmitter looses internal PL injection and an external PL is required. I developed a $5 Arduino nano that would create any one of the standard PL tones and inject it into the DB 15 pin connector.. .
Which is another problem.

The DR2X external controller looks like a VGA 3 row DB15 connector except you can't use a VGA cable as not all 15 pins are available or used. First I ordered just the connectors and figured I'd save money making my own connector, the DB15 literally melted as I soldered pins. What crap we got picking up connectors at a swap-n-shop from some vendor.
I remember I had to order a high density (3 row) DB-15 1 to 1 patch cable from one of the electronic suppliers like Digikey or Mouser. It was about $15 plus $8.95 shipping. Then cut it in half, and ring out the colors to the pins. The cable I did buy had a "frame ground"- bare wire, which I felt was a quality touch.

I ordered a URIx from DMK engineering to front end the Raspberry PI (RPI).. That provides all the signals necessary for audio and handshaking. Another $100. Then an interface box because basically your going from a 15 pin cable to a box with an arduino Nano in it to a cable with a matching 25pin conntector to the URIx, then a USB A-B cable to the raspberry PI...

I run 2 repeaters on RPI 2's and have for 4-5-6 years. They run flawlessy. About that time or shortly there after the RPI's any flavor became UNOBTAINUM.

So it was boxed and placed on a shelf in my workshop.
I agree since digital modes- Doesn't matter Fusion,Dstar, DMR the outputs of the repeater should be Analog. Especiaqlly with FUSION, the input should be Auto switching to take advantage of Fusions ability to make a weak noisy analog signall perfect into the repeater. Many people say it increases the range of a HT 20-30-40%..(your results may vary).. No matter what the group uses to get into the repeater everyone will hear it on the output..
The 15 pin external controller connection can be configured Recieve AMS- Auto Mode Select and the transmitter Analog only.

There is no advantage to run the repeater output otherwise as the repeater has height and power, all ready overcoming the limitations of HT to HT direct communications. The BASIC 101 1st chapter of "what is a repeater."

So once you have a DR2X repeater, 'Please don't buy a chinese duplexer, GEt CELLWAVE, TX-RX, Sinclare, Motorola, etc.

Then to use HAMVIOP RPI- Hardware including a URIx from DMK engineering, and knit everything together. You're talking about $200-250. But the HAMVIOP ALLSTAR RPI works great as a repeater controller and gives you voice ID's and all the bells and whistles of a $700 repeater controller. Plus you can remote into it and modify it as you please.

THe negative, - if internet is not available at the site, most ISP's (like my group) have to pay commercial rate, because it's a business ---even though we are ham operators. Fortunately we share it with a commercial business on site but if we had our own it would be $100 a month plus taxes. So what you may have to do is use a remote UHF link to the DR2X, The DR2X has a second receiver for remote control, but legally you can only remote control repeaters above 222Mz. Lot's of inexpensive internet plans do not provide for UUDP-TCP connections either. ISP's view those as needed by "commercial users".. like someone running a server or a business out of their home. Bang business rates again.

tools needed

2 repeaters on RPI 2's

DR2X

duplexer, GEt CELLWAVE, TX-RX, Sinclare, Motorola, etc.

HAMVIOP RPI

HAMVIOP ALLSTAR RPI

URIx from DMK

15 pin external controller connection

remote UHF link to the DR2X, The DR2X

configured Recieve AMS- Auto Mode Select and the transmitter Analog only.

internet

beer

7http://www.blogger.com/profile/15056176989199547034noreply@blogger.com0Calgary, AB, Canada51.044733099999988 -114.071883128.729497907438265 -149.22813309999998 73.359968292561717 -78.9156331tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-8338344951670257160.post-5446952674696891592021-11-17T23:04:00.010-05:002022-08-21T10:08:40.661-04:00Yaesu DR 2X Repeater: Part 1 - An overview and set up (including DP-ID)Yaesu DR 2X Repeater: Part 1 - An overview and set up (including DP-ID)

Yaesu DR 2X Repeater: Part 1 - An overview and set up (including DP-ID)

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ZCSK4JvFtWc

Yaesu DR 2X Repeater: Part 2

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=vciN6uH90X8

Unknownnoreply@blogger.com0Toronto, ON, Canada43.653226 -79.383184315.342992163821151 -114.5394343 71.963459836178842 -44.226934299999996tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-8338344951670257160.post-10160716906160479332018-04-28T19:01:00.004-04:002021-01-28T11:44:21.758-05:00System Fusion dr-2x

Yaesu DR-2x Repeater
At Hamvention last year the new DR-2X was announced and on display in the Yaesu booth. The first thing that pops into my head is, “cool, an upgraded repeater that has a bunch of new features and works better than the DR-1x that we bought about a year ago.

However, the more I read about it, I realized it isn’t really an upgraded one it’s just a different one. Each of the two has something that the other one doesn’t. Which strikes me as crazy that a newer model doesn’t have all the same features as an older one does and then some.

So what the DR-1X have that the DR-2X doesn’t, you ask? Well it seems that you can’t use the WIRES-X directly on the repeater. I don’t really see this as much of a big deal, seeing that I’m sure someone will make a work around for it.

On the flip side of this though the DR-2X has a few features on it that I find really interesting.
Seems like I can build one heck of a repeater with more options than I can with this thing, especially if I wanted to go a full $1,600 on just the transceiver bit.

<span style="background-color: #fcfcff; color: #141414; font-family: "georgia" , "times new roman" , "times" , serif; font-size: 15px; line-height: 20px;">Nothing against Yaesu, since I'm a Yaesu guy, but their products have gone on the way side, and still expensive.

<span style="background-color: #fcfcff; color: #141414; font-family: "georgia" , "times new roman" , "times" , serif; font-size: 15px; line-height: 20px;">One of the clubs I belong to has the DR-1 and they've had nothing but issues with it... from interference where it's placed, to desense issues, along with the fact that the squelch control is not variable enough... they do it all through the display as little bars. They should've done it with a knob or some other way.

<span style="background-color: #fcfcff; color: #141414; font-family: "georgia" , "times new roman" , "times" , serif; font-size: 15px; line-height: 20px;">And you have to take the case apart if you want to update the firmware. Why not a USB slot in the front for a software image.

<span style="background-color: #fcfcff; color: #141414; font-family: "georgia" , "times new roman" , "times" , serif; font-size: 15px; line-height: 20px;">Speaking of the case... it looks like someone's home brew basement experiment. It looks like there was supposed to me more knobs/buttons. Not to mention the hilarious ring around the display called "Display". Gee... couldn't figure that one out.

<span style="background-color: #fcfcff; color: #141414; font-family: "georgia" , "times new roman" , "times" , serif; font-size: 15px; line-height: 20px;">Not all that impressed and as I like to say it "There's other fish in the sea."
